Bangladeshi men too sexy!

Now as I've been wandering along blogosphere I found that three bloggers Rashedin, Shakia and Tareq blogged about the same story, which states that malaysian girls can't resist themselves from being attracted to a Bangladeshi guy who according to them is too sexy. Actually Tareq and Rashedin both were surprised but Shakia who is the only female here, questioned about it. But I am not going to talk about this because the above three already did. But what I am going to do is just to share with you a true story which involves a malaysian family and a bangladeshi family.

Now it's all started in the late '70s when my mother got herself admitted into Rajshahi university. Well a few of her friends also got themselves admitted there. This story is actually about one of those friends, who's name I am not going to tell so let's think of her as "A". Now what happened next was that "A" fell in love with a guy who is a Malaysian and was studying MBBS in Rajshahi Medical college. (Attention girls!! Apparently it seemed that not only girls, Malaysian boys were also attracted to bangladeshi girls). Anyway let's call this malaysian guy "X" (It's not that I wanted to keep his name a secret too but actually I don't know his name.)

So now Mr. X and Miss A wanted to get married. But Miss A's family couldn't accept that their daughter would marry a foreigner, about who they don't know really at all. But the love between X and A was too hard to resist. So Miss A's family decided that Miss A's brother whom we'll call "B" would go with A and X in malaysia. Now can you guess what happened next? Mr. B went to malaysia with his sister A and her husband X and with his irresitble "Bangladeshi" charm he made Mr. X's sister who we'll call "Y" fell in love with him and they married. (Hmm the bangladeshi charm never failed!!!!)

And if you're amazed now after reading this story, I should tell you that I am not finished yet. Yes Mr. X had another brother "Z" who came with his sister Y and her husband B in bangladesh and guess who he found? Bingo!!! welcome Miss "C", the youngest of A and B. And they fell in love too and married to each other.

In short A,B,C are from a Bangladeshi family and X,Y,Z are from a Malaysian one. And each one has a one to one marriage relationship with one from the other. :D

Looks like cupid got himself busy to make "Banglasian" couples.

Old is Gold

The incident I am going to tell you took place two days ago on 21st March while we were implementing our interfacing project during the midterm vacation. On that day when we went out to take lunch we saw piles of old monitors, CPUs, printers and other instruments were stacked on the corridor in front of the networking lab. Our lab administrator of MCL lab was there so we asked him about what was going on. And then he told us that to clean up spaces these old pcs are sent to BUET stock room from where they will be sold out. He also showed us the very firsts of some of our lab's PCs, printers which includes First PC with keyboard and tape memory, first bubble jet and laser printer, scanner , projector, a keyboard prototype designed by one of former student and CPU of every generation . We then thought that these things should be saved and displaying them would encourage young students about how technologies are evolving. So we talked to Mostofa Ali Patowari sir, Tanvir parvez sir , Abu wasif sir and Masud Hasan sir and told them our plans. All of them agreed and talked with our head of department, Mashrur Ali sir who happily agreed and allow us to select some of those so that we could implement our plans. Now what we thought is that we could place them in open spaces like in different corners of our lab or classrooms, or in a suitable position in the corridor with leminated descriptions of the device. I didn't have camera with me then but I took some pictures with my mobile. So I am attaching them at the end of this post. Sorry for the poor resolution.

That's what I cried out when Mashrafe hitted the last ball for six and pulling bangladesh to cross the landmark of 300 runs for the first time in the history of Bangladesh cricket. Frankly speaking I was not too sure about it. But I was optimistic as usual. After the 49th over when Bangladesh were 278 and Mashrafe was on the strike, I told my father and my cousin Kafi, with whom I was watching the game, that 23 runs is possible to have on the last over and they laughed at it and I joined them. Then after the first 2 balls of the last over when we needed only 16runs for the 300 I told them it's easy and still possible theoritically , Mashrafe will do it with a six and two fours. But still no one along with me believed me. And then another ball went and we were 15 runs away from the 300 with 3 balls to left. After that Mashrafe hit a six. And I was like "see? Only another six and a four required". No one talked and moved. Then the next ball, bang, it's a four. And I told them "you'll see this time...". And we then already had the belief. And finally came the last ball and as soon as Mashrafee hit the ball, I was on my knees, shouting and crying out loud "Yessssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss".

After being tormented by injuries after injuries he never gave up hope and came back strongly after each injury. Today he was unbeaten with 44 runs in only 16 balls. No wonder why only the presence of Mashrafe can change the body language of Bangladesh team. Because Mashrafe is a fighter who knows how to attack. Hat's off to him.

Happy π ( PI ) day

Today, March 14, is PI day. Written in the USA date format, March 14 is an unofficial celebration for Pi Day derived from the common three-digit approximation for the number π: 3.14. It is usually celebrated at 1:59 PM (in recognition of the six-digit approximation: 3.14159). Some, using a twenty-four-hour clock rather than a twelve hour clock, say that 1:59 PM is actually 13:59 and celebrate it at 1:59 AM or 3:09 PM (15:09) instead. Parties have been held by the mathematics departments of various schools around the world.

This day has been celebrated in a variety of ways. Groups of people, such as math or science based clubs, might gather to consider the role that the number π has played in their lives and imagine the world without π. During such an event, pi celebrants may devise alternative values for π, eat pie (pie), play pi (piñata), drink pi (Piña Colada), eat pi (Pineapple) or watch pi (Pi (film)). Enthusiasts also note that the day happens to be Albert Einstein's birthday. It's also curious to note that the renowned science and technology university MIT, known as widely for its unconventional, quirky take on math as for its extremely high academic standards and low acceptance rates, often mails out its acceptance letters to be delivered to prospective freshmen on Pi Day.

Dan brown, writer of the famous book The vinci code, has been summoned to the court as two historians, Baigent and Leigh, claimed that he stole their ideas. This is not the first time that Dan Brown has been called to defend himself over the provenance of his novel. In August, he won a court case brought by another author, Lewis Perdue, who claimed that The Da Vinci Code reproduced elements from two of his novels, Daughter of God and The Da Vinci Legacy. But this time it wont be so easy to win as the name of one of the major characters of the book, Sir Leigh Teabing, is an anagram of the names Leigh and Baigent,(coincidence??) and ofcourse you all know about Dan browns love about anagrams. Everyone who uses e-mail has surely recieved forwarded e-mails like "if you don't forward this microsoft will close your account" or "forward this and your wish will come true" or "forward this mail and we will donate 1$ to this poor innocent child's treatment". And you all know that these are all fake. But there's still people out there who don't believe this and keep forward us these type of mails. Now here is a nice flash animation for you to reply those person. Check it out.

Yesterday I received an interesting e-mail from a friend with an mp3 as an attachment which my friend claimed has really happened in AKTEL customer care. The mp3 is actually a conversation between an officer at the customer care of AKtel and a woman who uses AKtel mobile and experienced unexpected balance theft. I don't know whether it's real or fake but it's so funny that upon hearing tears came out of my eyes due to laughing. Now I should remind you that the conversation contains illicit language and heavy swearing which could easily offend anyone. So I strongly recommend not to download it because I won't take any responsibilities if you feel offended. And if you still want to give it a try then click here to download the mp3 at your own risk.

Bhalobashar Gushti Kilai...

"Bhalobashar gushti kilai" - what do you think of this phrase?? What it could be? Well I'm not gonna reveal the answer here. It's your task to guess and then click read more to verify whether you were right or wrong and ofcourse don't forget to let me know.


Yeap it's an audio album. After the bangla movies (khaisi tore) now the audio albums are having eye catching names. And the singer who I think is way ahead of his time also took ultra cool name "Tabiz faruk" . You know that bangladeshi terrorists used to have such type of names (Murgi babu, sweden aslam etc..) and now the singers didn't want to lay behind. Tabiz faruk is an example of this.

From liquidexplosion who's the source of this post I came to know about the more amazing subtitle of this album which is "You don't like the flower stick I give you, once I use the hockey stick you'll understand how to forcefully take love". I wonder whether the hockey stick is a metaphor!

I am back!

Well after five days I am now breathing some free air. Thanks to awami league for tomorrows sudden hortal. After that BUET is going to be closed for seven days starting from thursday next. (We are EAGERLY looking for it.) Then we have another holiday on 26th March, sunday. So eyeing a string of holidays I started to relax already. Although I have two more quizes this week , interfacing and system analysis and design. But lets not worry about them right now.

Lots of things happened by this time. Let's have a look at them :

BUET students of nazrul hall enjoyed a nice party , " goru utshob " (The beef feast). Know about it from Dipu's experience. Unfortunately I missed the party. :(

Australia broke the 400 run barrier in ODI against South Africa. I wonder what would the cricket critics say if they scored it against bangladesh. Anyway check the scorecard, first ever 400 runs in ODI . (Update: I just finished writing the whole entry and south africa is chasing quite fast and are 190-1 in 22 overs. So the match isn't finished yet.)

UPDATE 2: I just have finished watching the best ever one day match in the history of cricket. Yeap you guessed right south africa chased 434 and won by one wicket. Gibbs was the main architecht of the innings....

If you are living in bangladesh then you might've noticed the promotional Song produced for British High Commission's (Bangladesh) "Climate Change Project" by Habib. Now I made a to-do list for me to do during the mid-term vacation. I will let you know if I could make any of those. Anyway here's the list:

1. Perform a new installation of windows ( C: drive has only 247MB left). By new installation I meant formatting C first. By the way I tried to do it for 5/6 times already but everytime after backing up data I ended up like "Not tomorrow I'll do it on the next vacation". As a result of these I've at least 3 folders named "Ex-C" in my hdd.

2. Transfer all the video songs, cricket match recordings of Bangladesh and bangla natoks into DVDs. Amazingly that would increase my hard disk capacity by around 17GB. FYI I've almost all the winnings of bangladesh recorded starting from the famous ICC trophy final victory. Btw you can download some such videos from here.

3. If you're an old visitor of mine, you should remember the map on my left sidebar which showed the location of currently online visitors on the world map. But I removed that after they've changed their policies. Now after seeing Tareq and Dipu's blog, I wished to place a visitor map on my blog which will show where are the visitor's from. Isn't this cool? See an instance of the old geoloc here.

Technology problems? huh!

Blogger hack : Recent comments

From the beginning of this blog I've always desired to enlist the most recent comments in the sidebar. So that visitors along with I could have a quick understanding of recent reactions at a glance. It is also a good way to let visitors see who else is reading and commenting. Also, if they are following any of the comment threads, it will be easier for them to see at a glance if other people have joined in the discussions.

Blogger.com provided a solution before but it's just lame. Because those aren't strictly the most recent comments, but just the comments for the post on the current page. Also, they will show in order by post, rather than by comment date/time.

But there were other means. If you switch to third party commenting service like haloscan they would provide feeds to show the most recent comments. But I don't like haloscan because the comments made on the posts wouldn't appear on the corresponding post pages and after a certain time they delete your comments. So I wanted to stick with traditional blogger commenting service.

Then I found Farrago Recent Comments Hack which has gained huge popularity but the installation is very complex and requires huge change on the template. So I discarded it too. I also didn't use singpolyma's comment syndication for the same reason.

Then I found this post which let me know about mailbucket and an easy way to use mailbucket to generate comment feed. It's cool and also very easy. So what you have to do is :

1. Sign in to your blogger account. Go to dashboard -> Settings -> Comments. And under the field "Comment Notification Address" you've to give the mailbucket address.

2. Try to choose an uncommon name for the mailbucket e-mail address otherwise it'll get mixed with other person's feed. Now you'll get your RSS feed with that name. For example if you choose to mail shafi123@mailbucket.org then RSS feed will be mailbucket.org/shafi123.xml .

3. Now you can use either feeddigest or blogresource to generate a java script code which will show the most recent comments in your sidebar if you put that script in the sidebar in your blog template.

So it's very easy to set up a recent comments' list by using mailbucket. But the problem is anyone can spam the comments by mailing simply to that e-mail address. So here's an alternate solution:

1.Create a googlegroup.

2.Make the group public and restrict it so that no one can join without your permission but can read the messages.

3.Sign in to your blogger account. Go to dashboard -> Settings -> Comments. And under the field "Comment Notification Address" you've to give the mail address of the google group.

4. Now go to your group homepage and click "About Group" which is just below the search box.

5. Now you'll get RSS or Atom feeds of your google group under feeds. Use this feed to create a javascript code. You can use either feeddigest or blogresource to generate a java script code which will show the most recent comments in your sidebar if you put that script in the sidebar in your blog template.

So there won't be any problem of breaching security and spamming in this way.

I've created both of the feeds for my blogs and will experiment for the next few days. So I would like to have your opinion about which one you think is the better. You'll find them in my right side bar. So take time to judge and please let me know.

Update: If you want to use google group for rss syndication you'll have to change the group setting so that anyone can post message. Otherwise commentors would recieve erronious e-mail messages from google group and the comment wouldn't list in the recent comments.

Bangla bhai arrested..

Finally RAB arrested bangla bhai aka siddiqur rahman (or siddiqul islam), 2nd in command of JMB (Jamatul Mujahedin of Bangladesh.) After the arrest of Shayokh abdur rahman, chief of JMB, five days ago in Sylhet this is surely another huge success of RAB. Hat's off to them. According to local TV news while RAB was interogating abdur rahman they got information that bangla bhai could be hiding in mymensingh. They then initiated their operation and got hold of Bangla bhai's wife who then informed RAB about the specific location of the top millitant. While the force tried to arrest him, bangla bhai and his fellow millitants charged bomb and fired submachinegun towards RAB and injured one of their men. RAB then charged back and got bangla bhai who hurt himself while charging bomb. After arrest he was taken to mymensingh medical college hospital for treatment and then shifted to Pilkhana BDR hospital.

After the arrest of the top two men of JMB we are hoping that they could reveal about their backbones in home and abroad. But all of these depends on the government who so far has been successful capturing them. Lets see what's coming next.

"Get busy living or Get busy dying" --- When I saw the movie, Shawshank Redemption, for the first time this dialogue became a favourite of mine. Maybe because I am a person who always wants to be busy or engaged with something. Something but not necessarily something related to study. Like when I sit infront of the PC you'll find music playing or sometimes the TV turned on. When you see me eating you'll always find a book or newspaper beside me. Now you may wonder why I've been telling all these things? If you are smart enough and a regular reader of mine you'll surely understand that I am very busy in this term.

I've already got a few mails in my inbox asking about where am I and a few offline messages in my yahoo IM enquiring whether I am alright. For those who cared and looked for me , here I am. I had been staying at hall for the last 3 days. Because today, I had to submit my network assignment, DLL layer implementation. Well it was HUGE but the fun of working together was good. And also I had a presentation today of my System analysis, design and development sessional. So I had to prepare the powepoint presentation also. But as both of these were group assignments and so we devided our works. Still it was quite a huge task to complete in 3 days. (Actually we had 4 weeks for the network layer implementation, but we had a very very bad tendancy of starting the work when it's almost the end of deadline :$) Anyway that's what that kept me busy for those days.

By this time a whole lot of interesting things happened in bangladesh and abroad. First of all is surely the arrest of Abdur Rahman, Chief of JMB (jamatul mujahedin of bangladesh ) the most wanted millitant in Bangladesh, by RAB (Rapid action bangladesh)(Read the news). I was watching the news in our TV room with a packed crowd like it happens during an interesting cricket / football match. It was great to see people's enthusiasm about this arrest. But ofcourse most of us were worried about the next course of action that's going to be taken by the law enforcing agencies. Let's see.

Another interesting story that rocked us was also broadcasted in TV. But that was a live cricket match between australia and south africa. In which australia was bowled out in only 93 runs and was beaten by south africa by 196 runs.
